Who they are
Amalfi Marine has worked the Amalfi seafront since 1993, one of the few businesses on this coast with more than thirty years in the same spot. They rent boats with and without a licence, run private skippered trips towards Positano, Praiano, Capri and Nerano, sunset and night cruises, a water-taxi service and events. There are no shared per-person tours: you take the whole boat.
One thing has to be said up front, because it shapes the rest of this review: the official site amalfimarine.com, tried repeatedly, answers with a blank page on every address. What follows comes from the English mirror amalfiboatrental.com, which does work, and from third-party listings — TripAdvisor and Boataround. Where a figure comes from a third party, we say so.
Watch out for the near-namesakes too:"Amalfi Boat Rental" in Salerno, amalfiboats.it and amalfiboattour.com in Maiori are different companies. Amalfi Marine's own English domain is amalfiboatrental.com, which does nothing to make that clearer.
The meeting point is on Lungomare dei Cavalieri, a few minutes from the Amalfi ferry pier.
Where they leave from
Lungomare dei Cavalieri 7, in Amalfi harbour; the TripAdvisor listing gives number 252 on the same seafront as the meeting point, so confirm the exact spot over WhatsApp the evening before. Ferry arrivals land at Molo Pennello and are already there; bus arrivals get off in Piazza Flavio Gioia. By car it is the paid garages along the SS163 coast road, and in Amalfi parking costs about as much as lunch, so factor it in.
The fleet
More than fifteen boats, the operator says, and the range is the real selling point. At the top there is an Azimut 68S yacht. Then the cabin cruisers: Boataround lists a Cranchi CSL27 for six and a Jeanneau Leader 805 for five. Below them the centre-console open boats and, at the base of the pyramid, the 40 hp dinghies that can be rented without a licence, fitted with cushions, a boarding ladder, a shower and a canopy. There are jet skis too.
That is the right ladder for anyone deciding how much to spend: the same company covers the day dinghy and the event yacht. Ask for the exact model when you book, because the difference between a cabin cruiser and an open boat changes a whole day once there is a chop running.
Tours and prices
Transparency is the weak spot here: neither site publishes a price list, and we mention that as practical information rather than a stylistic complaint — you will have to ask for a quote.
The figures we were able to gather: a Google snippet of the official site quoted motorboats "from EUR 400 per day", noting that the price varies by boat, skipper and season; Boataround listed both cabin cruisers at EUR 1,300 a day per boat, including captain, fuel and drinks; a TripAdvisor review mentions about EUR 300 a day for a self-drive rental plus EUR 70 of fuel. On self-drive, fuel and the Capri landing fee are excluded.
Trips are organised as a half day or as a full eight-hour day.

Booking and cancellation
You book by phone on +39 338 307 6125, on WhatsApp at +39 328 921 4622, or by email to info@amalfimarine.com. Alternatively there are the TripAdvisor and Viator listings and the Boataround shop window for the cabin cruisers. There is no real online booking engine: the main channel is chat, which is also the thing reviewers praise most.
On cancellation the sources differ slightly: the site promises free cancellation "even last minute" in bad weather, while the TripAdvisor product page states a full refund up to 24 hours before. When in doubt, get the terms confirmed in writing in the chat — that leaves you with a dated record.
What reviewers say
The numbers are striking: TripAdvisor showed 4.9 out of 5 from 683 reviews, third of 92 boat tours and water sports in Amalfi and a Hall of Fame badge; the product page "Amalfi Coast Boat Rental" showed 5.0 out of 5 from 290 reviews. We found no Google listing we could attribute with confidence.
The recurring praise: it is repeatedly named as the best-value self-drive option in Amalfi; the WhatsApp communication — the name Domenico comes up often — is described as direct and honest; the boats are called immaculate; the skippers, with Antonio named regularly, are considered professional; the lunch recommendations are appreciated too.
There is little criticism, but it is worth reporting: a dispute over fuel charges and a GPS-based calculation; the fact that Capri turns out to be farther than many expect on a 40 hp dinghy; rocky beaches that call for water shoes; and pre-trip logistics guidance that some found thin. These are themes from public reviews read.
Booking direct or through GetYourGuide
With Amalfi Marine the direct channel is almost unavoidable for licence-free rental: that product barely exists on the platforms, and a chat with the owner is the quickest way to find out which boat is free. Without commission, the price also tends to be lower.
Platforms remain more convenient when you want a skippered trip with contractual certainty: free cancellation up to 24 hours before on most products, a price fixed in euros, support in your own language and reserve-now-pay-later. If you prefer that route, the private speedboat tour from Positano or Praiano is the fast two-hour equivalent, while the private tour with prosecco and snorkelling covers a full day from Amalfi. With a company whose website does not load, written confirmation counts double, whichever channel you book through.
Praiano and Marina di Praia are within easy reach of a dinghy. Capri, at 40 hp, much less so.
Alternatives
For licence-free rental the other name to compare is Chic & Fabulous, with 2023-2026 boats and a published price list, convenient from Maiori and Amalfi.
