Who they are

Sea Horse Amalfi Coast was set up in 2021 by Alessandro and Manuela, two locals who put together a handful of boats and an office on the seafront. It is a young business next to the old names of Amalfi harbour, and that shows both ways: quick replies, small groups and an easy tone on one side, a thin public record and inflexible paperwork on the other.

They work along two lines: shared tours sold per person with a stated cap of ten passengers, and private skippered charters for the whole boat. There is no mention of licence-free self-drive rental.

One thing worth knowing before you search: the TripAdvisor listing appears under several versions of the name, and it should not be confused with "Seahorse Esclusive Cruises" in Positano, which is a different company.Ferries moored at the pier in Amalfi harbour

Amalfi harbour: the Sea Horse base is a few minutes' walk west along Lungomare dei Cavalieri.

Where they leave from

The address is Via Lungomare dei Cavalieri 5, beside Lido Azzurro. If you arrive by ferry you land at Molo Pennello and walk west along the seafront; if you come by SITA bus you get off at the terminus in Piazza Flavio Gioia, a couple of minutes away. Arriving by car means one of the paid garages cut into the rock along the coast road, so budget for it. Departures from Positano and from Salerno port have to be agreed when you book.

The fleet

The website advertises"5+ yachts", a vague formula covering a mixed fleet: a Raffaelli Typhoon Day speedboat, gozzi built by Nautica Pinto in Amalfi, and traditional gozzi. TripAdvisor reviews describe a cabin cruiser with a shaded area, a toilet and a freshwater shower, which makes a real difference on a six- or eight-hour day, especially with children aboard. Lengths and build years are not published, so ask for the details of the specific boat when you book a private charter.

Tours and prices

The figures below are the ones shown on the official website. One caveat: the site adapts its currency to the visitor's country and showed us US dollars, so the final euro amount depends on the exchange rate and on your card.

Shared tours, per person: four hours along the Amalfi Coast $89.88; six hours $105.74; Positano four hours $89.88; the eight-hour Capri day $190.33; a two-hour sunset sail $74.02. Private charters, per boat for up to ten or twelve guests: from $951.64 for four hours, from $1,321.72 for six hours, from $1,744.67 for the classic seven-hour Amalfi–Positano–Capri run. The Capri landing tax, about EUR 10 per person, is extra. A TripAdvisor product page listed the same six-hour shared tour at $177 per adult: where two numbers disagree, get the price confirmed in writing before you pay.

Swim stops are the core of a Sea Horse day: reviews keep returning to the cliff jumps and the snorkelling.

Booking and cancellation

You book on the website, which runs on the FareHarbor engine, or by email, on +39 389 898 8335 and over WhatsApp. The site is in English and Italian and the crew speaks English.

The published terms give free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure and no refund after that. If the operator cancels for weather you get a full refund or a new date. Private charters may take a 50% deposit with the balance due 24 hours ahead. Late arrivals and no-shows are not refunded, and that clause is the source of the complaints described below.

What reviewers say

TripAdvisor showed 4.4 out of 5 from 80 reviews, ranked 27th of 92 boat tours and water sports in Amalfi; one product page showed 4.4 out of 5 from 32 reviews. The site visitamalfi.info quoted 4.8 out of 5 on Google, but that figure dates from 2023 and we could not confirm it at source.

The recurring praise: a friendly, funny crew, plenty of stops to swim and snorkel — with jumps off the rocks for those who fancy it — prosecco, beer, limoncello and snacks on board, a comfortable boat and fast pre-trip messaging.

The recurring criticism runs along two lines. The first is lateness: more than one guest describes losing the full fare after arriving late, and one account mentions about $600 lost after a delayed bus. The second is response times by phone and WhatsApp, which stretch in high season. We report these as patterns in public reviews read, not as established facts: they are the customers' side, and the company may tell it differently.

Booking direct or through GetYourGuide

Booking direct has two clear advantages: you speak to the people who will drive the boat and can shape the route, and the price is sometimes lower because no platform commission is built in. With a small operator like this one, though, the direct channel is also where the late-arrival clause is applied without any give.

Going through a platform changes the safety net rather than the boat: most products carry free cancellation up to 24 hours before, you pay a clear amount in euros, support answers in your own language and you can often reserve now and pay later. Leaving from Amalfi, the private tour with prosecco and snorkelling covers the same stretch of coast; if you would rather share the boat, the shared Positano and coast tour with snorkelling leaves from Positano. To compare what is running on the day, there is the list of departures from Amalfi.

We say this every time: a platform does not make a boat better. It makes changing your mind easier.Sunset over the Amalfi Coast seen from the water

The two-hour sunset sail is the cheapest item on the Sea Horse price list.

Alternatives

If you want small groups with a far deeper review record behind them, look at Bluestar Positano, which leaves from Spiaggia Grande. For the same idea of a shared gozzo, with a departure that suits arrivals by train or cruise ship, there is Blu Mediterraneo in Salerno. If the island is the whole point, our guide to Capri from Amalfi compares private boat, shared tour and hydrofoil, while the private tours page explains when taking the whole boat is worth it. Every operator we have examined is listed on the operators page.

Pros

  • Young, informal crew, named personally in many reviews
  • Shared trips genuinely capped at ten passengers, not twenty
  • Prosecco, beer, limoncello and snacks included even on shared departures
  • Boats with shade, a toilet and a shower, which matters on the six-hour trips

Cons

  • The site shows prices in US dollars to visitors outside Europe, so your final cost depends on the exchange rate
  • A hard line on late arrivals: more than one reviewer reports losing the fare after a delayed bus
  • Phone and WhatsApp replies can be slow in high season
  • Eighty TripAdvisor reviews is still a thin record to judge from

Our verdict

★★★★ 4.0 / 5

Sea Horse is a young operation built around small groups and a relaxed mood, and the reviews back that up. The sour notes are administrative rather than nautical: prices shown in a foreign currency and no flexibility on late arrivals. Book with a generous buffer on your transfers and read the terms before you pay.

Best for: Travellers who want a shared trip that is actually small · Couples and friends after swim stops and cliff jumps · Anyone based in Amalfi without a car
